Tomato prices have increased in Ukraine

02.09.2024 10:21

The trend of rising tomato prices in Ukraine has been going on for three weeks in a row. According to market experts, the main reason for the increase in prices for these products is a rather rapid decrease in the supply of these products at local factories. In addition, many farmers have lost a significant portion of their tomato crop due to adverse weather conditions.

According to market participants, the demand for greenhouse tomatoes remains high due to limited supply, so this week producers have raised their selling prices again. As a result, the prices of these vegetables today are in the range of UAH 40-55/kg (USD 0.97-1.34/kg), which is on average 12% higher than last weekend.

First of all, market participants link the current situation with the high demand for tomatoes, which has been observed for the third week in a row. At the same time, the market supply of these products was gradually decreasing, partly due to seasonal factors. The samples in the combines were small and unstable, and supplies from summer greenhouses or open fields were practically non-existent.

It is worth noting that tomatoes in Ukraine are currently sold at an average price 2.4 times higher than at the end of August 2023. At the same time, market analysts do not exclude the possibility of further price increases in this segment, as local farmers reduce the sample.
