According to the results of the weekly monitoring of purchase prices of the analytical department of the «Swinemakers of Ukraine» Association, in the third decade of July, prices for pigs in slaughter conditions continued to decrease.
Tense price negotiations last Friday led to a further drop in prices on the cuttings market. As a consequence, this week there were many purchases at 45-49 UAH/kg, but there were also purchases at both lower and higher prices. At the same time, the heterogeneity of demand and supply for pork in different regions has led to further price differentiation. Therefore, prices in the western region were somewhat higher than in the rest of the country. The weighted average market price was UAH 48.5/kg, which is 6.7% lower than last week.
Expectations of meat processors regarding future price trends are currently divided. Some believe that prices will remain at the current level, while others hope for their recovery. At the same time, this week's sales were characterized as more balanced, and reviews of the available supply ranged from «excessive» to «balanced». At the same time, suppliers agree that low prices do not stimulate the business activity of either producers or processors, and therefore generally do not lead to an improvement in the situation.
