Cucumbers in Ukraine continue to rise in price

29.10.2024 10:28

In Ukraine, the price of greenhouse cucumbers continues to rise rapidly. According to market sources, the main reason for the price increase in this segment is the shortage of these vegetables in the country due to the rather limited supply of the product at domestic enterprises. At the same time, consumer demand for greenhouse vegetables is stable, although limited, East Fruit Project analysts note.

This gave sellers the opportunity to raise the selling price of available lots of cucumbers even more. On the eve of the weekend, cucumbers sold for 80-100 UAH/kg, an average of 24% higher than at the end of the previous week.

It is worth noting that the current prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are the highest for at least the last seven-year monitoring period. Positive price dynamics in this segment has been observed in the domestic market for three weeks in a row.

According to importers, many of them are already planning to buy large batches of cucumbers from Turkey, as the supply of Ukrainian producers will be significantly reduced. As a rule, imported cucumbers enter the Ukrainian market at the end of October, when the local supply of vegetables is significantly reduced. Typically, Ukraine receives a large amount of imported products in the first two months of winter, when domestic production is almost non-existent.

As of today, greenhouse cucumbers are sold in Ukraine at an average of 29% more expensive than in the same period last year. Experts believe that if the current level of demand persists, greenhouse suppliers will continue to raise prices for their products. According to them, price growth in this segment will stop only when the first large batches of cucumbers from foreign markets arrive in Ukraine.
