Cucumber prices in Ukraine: sharp decline after the start of the season

06.05.2024 13:43

With the beginning of the season of mass harvesting of cucumbers in Ukraine, prices for this popular vegetable crop began to drop rapidly. According to analysts, the drop in prices reaches 20% compared to the end of last week.

As of May 6, greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine can be bought for an average of UAH 85-130/kg. In markets, the price may be slightly higher, and in supermarkets — lower. A few weeks ago, prices for cucumbers reached 150-200 UAH/kg.

The reason for the drop in prices is the increase in the supply of cucumbers on the market. With the onset of warm weather, farmers throughout Ukraine began to harvest cucumbers from open ground. Greenhouse factories, which increase production volumes, also contribute their share to the price reduction.

Cucumber prices may continue to decline in the coming weeks, experts say. It is expected that the lowest prices will be in June-July, when the maximum number of cucumbers will enter the market.

Despite the drop in prices, cucumbers remain one of the most affordable vegetables on the Ukrainian market. They are actively bought both for fresh consumption and for preparing salads, snacks and canning.

It is worth noting that the prices of cucumbers in Ukraine can vary significantly depending on the region, variety and product quality. The most expensive cucumbers are usually sold in Kyiv and other big cities.
