07.05.2024 13:46

According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, as of May 7, 2024, Ukrainian farmers have already harvested 8.3 million tons of vegetables. This is 10% more than in the same period last year.

This indicator is a record for the entire history of Ukraine's independence. The increase in harvest became possible thanks to favorable weather conditions and the active work of farmers.
Most vegetables are grown in Vinnytsia, Odesa, Kyiv, Cherkasy and Poltava regions.

The leaders in vegetable production are:

— Potatoes: 21.3 million tons (2% more than in 2023).
— Cabbage: 1.58 million tons (3.3% more than in 2023).
-Carrots: 844.4 thousand tons (12.8% more than in 2023).
-Beets: 777.7 thousand tons (2.2% more than in 2023).
-Onions: 738.4 thousand tons (8.7% more than in 2023).
-Tomatoes: 397.6 thousand tons (15.4% more than in 2023).
— Cucumbers: 365.1 thousand tons (22.5% more than in 2023).

An increase in the harvest of vegetables in Ukraine will have a positive effect on the food security of the country and will lead to a decrease in the prices of vegetable products.

In addition, Ukraine plans to export some vegetables abroad. According to experts, this year Ukraine can export a record number of vegetables, because the demand for Ukrainian products on the world market is growing.

Ukrainian farmers are expected to harvest about 10 million tons of vegetables by the end of the year. This shows that Ukraine is one of the leaders in vegetable production in the world.

It is important to note that thanks to the record harvest of vegetables in Ukraine, their prices have already started to decrease. For example, the price of potatoes fell by 10%, cabbage — by 7%, carrots — by 5%.

It is expected that the decline in vegetable prices will continue.
This is good news for Ukrainians, because vegetables are an important part of the diet. The increase in the vegetable harvest also indicates that Ukraine has significant potential for the development of agricultural exports. This can stimulate the development of the Ukrainian economy and create new jobs.
