According to the data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the export of Ukrainian dairy products over the past few months has shown ambiguous dynamics.
In the first quarter of 2024, the export of milk from Ukraine increased by 15% compared to the same period last year. This was due to the growing demand for Ukrainian products from the countries of the European Union, the Middle East and North Africa. However, in April 2024, the export of dairy products from Ukraine began to decrease.
The reason for this was:
-Increase in milk prices in Ukraine by 20%. This made Ukrainian products less competitive on the world market.
-Introduction of new trade barriers by some countries. For example, China introduced new requirements for the quality of Ukrainian dairy products, which made it difficult to export them to this country.
— The war in Ukraine negatively affected the logistics supply chain and led to an increase in transport costs.
As a result of these factors, the export of dairy products from Ukraine in April 2024 decreased by 5% compared to March 2024.
Despite the temporary decline in exports, Ukrainian producers of dairy products remain optimistic about the industry's development prospects. It is expected that after the end of the war and the establishment of logistics supply chains, the export of dairy products from Ukraine will grow again. Ukraine has significant potential for the development of the export of dairy products. The country has significant reserves of milk and dairy products, as well as qualified personnel.
The Government of Ukraine is taking measures to support the export of dairy products.
In particular:
— The rates of export duties on some types of dairy products have been reduced.
— Financial support is provided to Ukrainian exporters of dairy products.
-Work is being carried out on the diversification of markets for Ukrainian dairy products.
Thanks to these measures, Ukrainian dairy products should become even more competitive on the world market.
