Potato prices in Ukraine continue to rise

09.10.2024 10:20

According to producers, the main factor in the rise in potato prices was the decline in harvests due to adverse weather conditions this summer. At the same time, farmers note that due to the prolonged drought in the main potato growing regions, there is a very high proportion of low-quality products that cannot be stored for a long period.

Ukrainian farmers are currently selling potatoes at UAH 17-25/kg ($0.41-0.61/kg), and potato prices in Ukraine have risen by an average of 19% in the last week alone.

The reason for the price increase in this segment is the increase in demand from wholesalers who still buy this product for storage. Meanwhile, heavy rains have made potato harvesting difficult in some regions, leading to further increases in potato prices.

It is worth noting that potato prices in Ukraine today are on average 2.8 times higher than in the same period last year. Leading players in the market are in no hurry to sell large batches of potatoes as they expect higher prices in this sector in the first half of the season.
