Onion prices are falling in Ukraine

Onion prices in Ukraine started to decline gradually this week. Producers report that demand for the crop has declined markedly, but market supply is gradually increasing as harvesting continues in the central and western parts of the country.

Currently, farmers are selling onions wholesale at UAH 8-14/kg ($0.19-0.34/kg), which is on average 11% cheaper than last weekend.

According to experts, the decline in onion prices is associated with an increase in the supply of medium and low-quality products on the market. A bad summer in Ukraine this year has led to a decline in the quality of vegetables. In addition, prolonged rains during harvesting further degraded the quality of the crop and made it unsuitable for long-term storage.

Farmers who are trying to sell the onion as quickly as possible report that prices are falling steadily. On the other hand, high-quality produce is now rarely available for sale, as farmers prefer to wait for higher prices and store it.

It is also worth noting that the average price of onions in Ukraine is 15% higher than in the same period last year.
