The impact of power outages on the meat processing industry

17.10.2022 12:12

According to analysts, the price pressure from the suppliers has increased. But, in turn, the procurers explain this by the fact that the pace of pork sales across all sales channels has decreased and the competition from imported meat raw materials has increased significantly, the supply of which has picked up since the end of September.

In October, the weakening of pork prices is a characteristic seasonal change, because most consumers switch to alternative types of protein (mushrooms, fish, meat of domestic animals and poultry), and also prepare for the heating season. According to the employees of the meat processing industry, the impact of seasonal trends may increase due to the weakened purchasing power of the population.

However, the new factor of uncertainty in the meat processing industry is fan power outages in many regions of Ukraine. In the past week alone, a number of operators have experienced cancellations of pre-ordered chilled pork and carry-overs, causing backlogs and «shifting» of production and delivery schedules.
