Countries most active in purchasing Ukrainian maize identified

14.10.2024 10:23

The corn harvesting campaign in Ukraine is going well. 37% of the planned area has been harvested. The yield is higher than the long-term average, but still not close to last year's level of 5.16 t/ha (5.46 t/ha in 2023). According to UkrAgroConsult analysts, yield indicators have improved significantly as maize harvesting has shifted to more northern regions.

Experts also noted that this season's lack of rain helped farmers save money on drying corn. Now the humidity in the fields is in the range of 12-14%, which is even below the norm.

Meanwhile, maize exports fell to 428 tons in September compared to the previous season.

«This is primarily due to high transitional reserves in past years. If we look at exports in September until 2022, then 428,000 tons is almost three times ahead of the average indicators of 2017-2021, when 155,000 tons were exported on average in September,» the analysts noted.

Top-3 leading export destinations in September:

  • Italy;
  • The Netherlands;

«EU countries actively import Ukrainian corn. In July-September, the EU purchased 5.2 million tons of corn of old and new harvest, and 50% of this import was corn of Ukrainian origin. For comparison, last season the EU imported 4.6 million tons (46% from Ukraine),» UkrAgroConsult added.
