Ukrainians will welcome this year's Easter with a slightly more expensive, but still affordable Easter basket. As predicted by experts, the prices of some popular food products, which are traditionally included in the basket, have increased slightly before the holiday.
Eggs rose in price the most: the average price of a dozen of the C1 category increased by 15-20% compared to March. This is due to a decrease in the supply of eggs on the market in the pre-holiday period. Meat prices also increased: chicken breast rose in price by 5-10%, pork — by 7-12%. Sausage products and dairy products became more expensive by 5-10%. The price for Easter this year is also slightly higher than last year. This is due to the increase in the price of flour, sugar, butter and other ingredients.
However, in general, the increase in food prices before Easter 2024 was insignificant. According to experts, the average cost of an Easter basket in Ukraine has increased by 10-15% compared to last year.
Here are some reasons why food prices increased before Easter:
— Increase in demand: before Easter, the demand for some food products traditionally increases, which leads to their price increase.
-Decreased supply: Some products, such as eggs, become more scarce in the pre-holiday period, which also leads to higher prices.
-Increased prices of ingredients: The prices of flour, sugar, butter and other ingredients used to make pasak and other dishes have also increased, leading to higher prices of ready-made products.
Despite the fact that the prices of products have increased slightly before Easter, they still remain affordable for most Ukrainians.
Here are some tips to save on your Easter basket:
-Buy products in advance: don't wait until the last days before Easter, because that's when the prices are the highest.
-Compare prices: compare prices in different stores before buying.
-Buy farm produce: Farm produce is often cheaper than store bought produce and is also fresher and better quality.
-Cook paska and other dishes yourself: it will cost you less than buying ready-made products.
