Coffee imports in January-August 2024 amounted to 31.97 million tonnes worth US$172.786 million. This was reported by the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
This is a significant increase compared to the same period in 2023, when 28,479,000 tons of coffee were imported, valued at $137,319 million.
Local coffee prices have risen since the start of the full-scale invasion, and this trend is likely to continue due to the global price increase.
Global factors affecting prices:
- WEATHER IN BRAZIL: Brazil, the world's largest coffee producer, is facing its worst drought in 70 years. Drought, frost, and fires have damaged a fifth of Arabica coffee plantations and have already caused prices to rise. The market deficit is expected to intensify in the 2025/2026 season;
- Vietnam also suffers from drought. Vietnam, the second largest coffee producer in the world, has also suffered from adverse weather conditions such as heat and drought, which have adversely affected the harvest;
- Increased demand for coffee: Increased demand, especially from Asian countries, has also contributed to higher coffee prices on the world market.
