Lard in Ukraine: prices and dynamics for 3 months of 2024

25.03.2024 13:46

Since the beginning of 2024, the price of lard in Ukraine has started to rise. This was due to a number of factors, such as:
-Increasing feed prices, which caused an increase in pork production costs.
-Reduction of the number of pigs due to the outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) in some regions of the country.
-Increased demand for lard from the population, which is associated with seasonal factors (New Year's holidays).

In the following month, the price of lard reached its highest level in the last few years. The average price per kilogram of lard was about 260 hryvnias. This increase in prices negatively affected the purchasing power of the population, which led to a decrease in the demand for lard.

In March 2024, the price of lard began to gradually decrease. This is due to:
— An increase in the supply of lard on the market, which is caused by a seasonal factor (pig slaughter at the beginning of spring).
-Decreasing the demand for lard from the population, which is connected with the beginning of Lent.

Experts predict that the price of lard in Ukraine will continue to remain unstable.
It is expected that the price may decrease slightly over the next few months, but it is unlikely to return to January 2024 levels.

The price of lard will continue to be influenced by such factors as:
— The cost of fodder.
— Livestock of pigs.
— Demand from the population.
— Epidemiological situation.

Market analysts recommend monitoring the updated information on the price of lard in order to economically plan the family budget.

According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in January 2024 the average price of lard in Ukraine was UAH 245.44/kg, in February – UAH 259/kg, and in March – UAH 239/kg.
The most expensive lard was in Zakarpattia Oblast (265 UAH/kg), and the cheapest was in Chernihiv Oblast (225 UAH/kg).
Lard is an important food product for Ukrainians. It is consumed both as an independent dish and used to prepare other dishes.
