The supply of poultry meat far exceeds the demand

Now the supply of poultry meat far exceeds the demand. At the same time, the cost of producing poultry products is rising. It's more about survival than business development.

This was stated by Yuriy Yakovlev, deputy director of K-Agroinvest Trade LLC, in an interview with the magazine «Our Poultry», agrotimes.ua reports.

«Until last year, broiler meat production was gradually increasing, the number of poultry farms was increasing, despite the fact that consumers were not growing, he noted. Although the number of processing plants has increased in recent years, the consumption of ready-made meat and sausage products has also increased»

Using a generator costs several times more than electricity from the grid. So all of these things affect the cost of production.

«The electricity in ur farm property is turned off for 12 to 14 hours a day. All this time, the generators are working to ensure the operation of the microclimate system in the aviary and other production processes,» said Yuriy Yakovlev.

This year's heat also exacerbated the situation. To prevent heat stress in the bird, additional measures are needed to maintain normal ventilation and temperature in the aviary.

«In the heat, chickens gain less weight because they consume more water and less food. So, at the end of the growing, the enterprise gets less meat than planned, — noted Yuri Yakovlev. — It turns out that costs are rising significantly, and the amount of output is decreasing. Therefore, many small and medium-sized broiler farms are now considering reducing poultry planting, production breaks, and stopping poultry production altogether for some time».

In companies, the number of male employees is decreasing and they are trying to employ as many women as possible. However, Yuriy Yakovlev says that some areas of production, such as lifting carcasses and transporting goods, are impossible without men power.

«And many other manufacturing processes, where this is real, manufacturers try to automate as much as possible. For example, our company recently purchased European automated meat-packing equipment and will continue to automate wherever possible», he said.
