18.03.2024 13:52

The year 2024 has become one of the most difficult for the Ukrainian agricultural sector. The full-scale war unleashed by Russia caused significant destruction of the agricultural infrastructure, shortages of fuel and lubricants, fertilizers and seeds.

Despite all the challenges, the sowing campaign of 2024 in Ukraine has started. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, as of March 18, 2024, 3.5 million hectares were sown with hot crops, which is 60% of the projected area.

The most active sowing campaign takes place in the western and central regions of Ukraine. In the eastern and southern regions, work is somewhat delayed due to hostilities and occupation.

The main crops sown by farmers are wheat, barley, corn, sunflower and soybeans. Ensuring Ukraine's food security is an important task this year. According to experts' forecasts, the gross grain harvest in 2024 may decrease by 30-40% compared to 2023.

The Government of Ukraine takes a number of measures to support farmers. In particular, funds will be allocated to compensate the cost of fuel and lubricants, fertilizers and seeds.
Farmers also receive help from international partners. In particular, the World Bank allocated 1.7 billion dollars to Ukraine to support the agricultural sector. Despite all the difficulties, Ukrainian farmers are doing everything possible to provide the country with food.
Thanks to their dedicated work, Ukraine will be able to overcome the challenges of the war and maintain its food security.
