Inflation on the consumer market accelerated to 7.5% in August compared to last August (after the annual level of 5.4% in July).
According to the State Statistics Office, inflation in August was 0.6% higher than in July, and 4.9% higher than a year earlier. Meanwhile, food and non-alcoholic beverage prices rose 0.9% in August. Eggs and vegetables rose in price the most — by 7.1% and 5.2%, respectively.
Bread, sugar, pasta, processed grain products, sunflower oil, rice, meat and meat products, milk and dairy products, butter, soft drinks, fish and fish products rose by 0.7% to 2.4%. Meanwhile, fruit prices fell by 7.4%.
Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 0.8% due to a 1.4% increase in tobacco products prices.
Looking at the year-on-year price changes, vegetables (+36%), butter (+18.5%) and bread (+12.2%) were the most expensive in August 2024. Eggs (-20.2%) and sunflower oil (-5.4%) fell in price the most. Prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products rose by 7.8% compared to the previous year.
At the same time, clothes and shoes fell in price by 5.1% over the year, and by 2.9% last month.
