This season, the EU has cut all major vegetable oil purchases

According to European Commission analysts, EU countries reduced imports of all major vegetable oils between 1 July and 15 September 2024 compared to the same period of the previous season. This is APK-Inform informs.

Soybean oil purchases, in particular, suffered the biggest drop — by 69% from 190.3 thousand tons to 58.4 thousand tons. Imports of rapeseed oil also fell sharply by 56%, from 123.8 thousand tons to 54.7 thousand tons.

Among other oils, purchases of palm oil decreased by 38% from 879,300 tons to 539,600 tons, and sunflower oil by 37% from 539,900 tons to 339,200 tons.

Analysts also noted that the EU countries reduced the import of oil crops by 21% to 13.83 million tons, and meal — by 6% to 13.8 million tons this season.

At the same time, EU countries increased their imports of major oilseeds over the same period: soybeans from 2.61 million tonnes to 2.62 million tonnes, rapeseed from 770,000 tonnes to 1.05 million tonnes, sunflower from 85.9 million tonnes to 5.03 million tonnes.
