Cereal prices in Ukraine: update for May 15, 2024

15.05.2024 13:54

Cereal prices in Ukraine have shown steady growth in recent months.

As of May 16, 2024, the average price per kilogram:

— Buckwheat is UAH 40-50, which is 15% more than in January 2024.
— Rice — UAH 30-40, which is 10% more than in January 2024.
-Oatmeal — UAH 20-30, which is 5% more than in January 2024.
— Wheat groats — UAH 25-35, which is 7% more than in January 2024.
— Semolina — UAH 15-25, which is 3% more than in January 2024.

The reason for the increase in the prices of cereals is due to several factors:

— The war in Ukraine had a negative impact on the production and export of Ukrainian grain crops. This led to a decrease in the supply of grain on the world market and an increase in its prices.
-Increasing costs for the production and transportation of cereals. This is due to the increase in prices for energy carriers, packaging and other production components.
-Decreasing competition on the grain market in Ukraine. Due to the war, some Ukrainian manufacturers were forced to stop work, which led to a decrease in the supply of products.

Cereal prices in Ukraine are expected to continue to rise in the coming months. This can negatively affect the purchasing power of Ukrainians, because cereals are an important part of the diet.

The Government of Ukraine is taking measures to curb the rise in cereal prices.
In particular:

— State regulation of prices for some types of cereals has been introduced.
-Financial support is provided to Ukrainian producers of cereals.
-Work is underway to diversify markets for Ukrainian grain products.

Thanks to these measures, it is expected that the growth of prices for cereals in Ukraine will be slowed down.
