Potato prices are at their highest level in 10 years

06.09.2024 10:24

At the beginning of autumn, the prices of vegetables for borscht were quite stable, but the prices of some vegetables, such as carrots and white cabbage, increased due to a decrease in supply. According to Tatyana Popovich, marketing manager of the wholesale market of agricultural products «Shuvar» in Lviv, it is expected that prices will drop somewhat in the coming weeks due to the beginning of harvesting of late varieties. At the same time, beets, onions and cabbages may increase in price by 10-15% until November due to increased demand and limited supply.

The average price of potatoes in the wholesale market of Shuvar now stands at 10.5 UAH/kg, which is the highest figure in the last decade. Last year, at this time, the potatoes cost UAH 7.5 per kilogram, while in 2016 it was only UAH 2.5.

The biggest increase in the price of kale was recorded in the second half of August — 22.5 UAH / kg. The average price of cabbage is currently 17.5 UAH/kg, which is significantly higher than the price of 7.5 UAH/kg in September last year.

Beets — 9.5 UAH/kg, carrots — 11 UAH/kg, onions — 12.5 UAH/kg: prices for other vegetables in the borscht set are quite stable.
