Ukraine will send 50,000 tons of grain to African countries

20.09.2022 11:57

According to Verkhovna Rada Resolution No. 1040, Ukraine will send almost 50,000 tons of grain to two African countries free of charge.

Agricultural products will be sent soon after the final agreements between the UN and Somalia with Ethiopia to overcome the humanitarian crisis. The government has already allocated UAH 421 million to compensate the cost.

Shipments will be made from the Odesa seaport.

It should be noted that in these two African countries it has not rained for almost 2 years. In this season, instead of the usual 4 months of rain in the countries, there were only 2, and even with the lowest amount of precipitation.
Somalia also received an average of 50% of normal rainfall. In 5 months, the number of people suffering from drought increased by 6.7 million people.
