A record number of ships passed towards the Ukrainian Danube ports

29.08.2022 16:04

Thanks to the liberation of Zmiiny Island by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, in early July the Danube-Black Sea waterway became open and accessible for the passage of ships transporting agricultural products.

On August 27, 7 ships passed through the mouth of Bystre on the Danube-Black Sea Passage, and four — through the Romanian Sulin Passage.
11 ships with a total capacity of 45,000 tons left for the Ukrainian Danube ports (Izmail, Reni and Usti-Dunetsk).
The transportation of ships in this way is extremely important, because even in March, more than 4 million tons of grain were transported through the Danube ports, which is more than by all other modes of transportation.
If after the first month of the war, the Danube port processed only 16.5 thousand tons of agricultural exports, then in July this indicator was already about 1.4 million tons.

Before that, access to the Ukrainian port on the Danube was possible only through the Sulin Canal, which passed through the territory of Romania.
