Hundreds of wagons with grain, which were loaded back in April, are standing in line in the direction of the EU

Due to the incomplete restoration of seaports on the western borders of Ukraine in the direction of the EU, multi-kilometer queues of wagons and trucks were formed. Neighboring countries cannot accept such significant volumes of Ukrainian grain, which were previously sent from the ports, because they do not have a sufficient number of wagons under Eurorail and teams.


At the beginning of September, 541 wagons with grain, which were loaded back in April, are in the queue.
And if 905,000 tons of grain passed through border crossings in July, then in August — only 805,000 tons.


The Vadul-Siret crossing is the busiest, from where cargo goes to the Romanian port of Constanta. Ukrzaliznytsia has 3,100 trolleys, of which 2,436 are located abroad.


Ukrzaliznytsia reported that long queues were formed also due to the fault of foreign carriers. They confirmed the transportation, but could not accept the cargo. Therefore, now, when planning transportation, the work of carriers began to be taken into account, and thanks to this, the queue decreased to 20,000 wagons compared to 43,000 in May.


The situation was difficult at road crossings as well. Since the beginning of the war, road transport has become almost the only way to export grain to the EU. But at the checkpoint «Yagodin» the queue in the direction of Poland reached a record 50 km, at other checkpoints it exceeds 20 km. The reason was the slow work of the Polish phytosanitary and vet control services.

In addition, Polish drivers blocked the road and let 2 cars pass per hour, demanding to cancel transport visa-free for Ukrainian drivers, to return permits for the transportation of goods and to allow the extraordinary departure of empty Polish cars from Ukraine, as they see strong competition in Ukrainian carriers.
