Cucumber prices in Ukraine have risen again

18.10.2024 10:19

The cold weather in most of the territory of Ukraine has led to a significant reduction in the supply of greenhouse cucumbers on the market, which has caused a sharp increase in prices in this segment.

Lack of competition from imports and high demand from local wholesalers and retailers also support prices.

According to the daily monitoring of the project, the season of greenhouse cucumber sales in Ukraine is coming to an end. Farmers are emptying the greenhouses, so the cucumbers are mostly sold in small wholesale batches.

It should be noted that in the latter case, the quality of cucumbers has significantly decreased, but this does not prevent sellers from raising prices. Since the beginning of this week, the price of this product has increased by an average of 26%, and today these vegetables are sold in the range of UAH 65-80/kg (USD 1.58-1.94/kg), depending on the quality and quantity of the offered lot .

According to experts, the current situation on the Ukrainian cucumber market indicates that importers can start supplying cucumbers from foreign markets as early as next week. In this case, prices for cucumbers produced in local greenhouses may halt the rise due to pressure from more affordable imports.

It is worth noting that today the prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are on average 14% higher than in the same period last year.
